This route of about 500 miles along pre-existing roads takes you through some of the most dramatic scenery in northern Scotland. It is worth taking your time and enjoying it!
Do take care as you drive, though, as much of the route is along narrow twisting roads which are often single-track with passing-places, marked with a white rectangle or diamond sign on a pole. Always pull in to your left to allow oncoming traffic to pass, or to allow following faster traffic to overtake.
It might be a doctor or nurse who needs to attend a patient, or somebody else on an urgent errand.
Besides the breathtaking scenery, take time to enjoy the cafes and restaurants too, and do try sampling the local craft shops. That will greatly please poor artists like me!
