Painting No. 132
This delightful stream flows northwards from Sgor Chaonasaid, the towering northern bastion of 2504ft (765m) Ben Loyal. The cool, clear waters flow in places through a shallow, wooded gorge - a place where you might expect to see hobbits and elves but are more likely to see badgers, otters, and perhaps even wildcats. It is always wise to check upstream that there is no dead animal in the water if you want a drink, but if all is clear then the water tastes deliciously peaty and refreshing Yet I have seen folk sitting beside a stream like this drinking expensive luke-warm “spring” water from a plastic bottle! It is symbolic of a lifestyle today that prefers to be sold a synthetic and costly version of reality rather than actually experiencing it. This is a beautiful and amazing world. Let’s live in it - touch it, smell it, see it, breathe it - rather than just experimenting with a virtual version of reality through LCD screens and pre-packaged, sanitised substitutes.
